About Us

Bangalore Neuro Education Trust, BNET for short is the brainchild of Dr. Umashankar. He had envisioned this trust with like-minded Neurologists - Dr. Prashanth L K, Dr. Guruprasad H, Dr. Raghunandan N and Dr. Rajesh K N. They were instrumental in forming this group. Many other Neurologists were also actively involved - Dr. Mahendra J V, Dr. Shobha N, Dr. Vikram Kamath, Dr. Vikram Huded, Dr. Shivakumar R, Dr. Pramod Krishnan to name some. Dr. Sharathkumar GG contributed to the Neuroradiology domain.

The motto was simple – to take Neurology to Physicians, general practitioners and any doctor interested in Neurology. Effectively to move Neurology from elitist circle to everyone. Neurologists who were busy with day-to-day practice and could not find time to regularly update themselves about the rapid strides in Neurology were also the target audience.

Urging Medicine and Pediatric postgraduates to take up Neurology, in addition to encouraging budding Neurologists and Neurology postgraduates was conceptualised.

The first Bangalore Neuro update took place in 2014.These meetings are normally planned around the last weekend of November or the first Saturday, Sundays of December. There have been eight such annual conferences till date, the last one in November 2023. On account of Covid, there was a brief halt during 2020 and 2021.

The meetings consist of didactic lectures, panel discussions, inauguration, orations, and BNET quiz for postgraduates followed by cultural programs. A unique attribute of these symposia is an oration delivered by a distinguished senior Neurologist; in memory of Dr. Umashankar's beloved mother late Mrs. Savithramma. The various luminaries were 2016 – Prof. Dr. K R Naik, 2017 – Prof. Dr. G M Wali, 2018- Prof. Dr. G T Subhash, 2019 Prof. Dr .Suresh Rao Aroor, 2022- Prof. Dr. P Satishchandra and 2023 – Prof. Dr. R Srinivasa

Two subspecialty conclaves were held in addition- Bangalore Neurocritical Care update in June 2016 and Bangalore Neuroimmunology update in June 2018 where keynote addresses were delivered by international faculties. The mission and vision of BNET is to train the younger generation in Neurology and make the society equipped with future- ready empathetic Neurologists
